Find your twitter friends around using AR

Addicted to twitter? Tweeting all the time? Well, this should excite you. Layar apps for android has this layer called tweeps around. The basic concept of this layer is pulling location data from anyone that share their location in twitter, then put it on AR the layer to show who’s around you. Confused?

This example will guide you to understand the concept, Say that you are in a shopping street like Oxford Street in London or Orchard Road in Singapore, You turn on the Layar apps, pick the Tweeps Around layer, and you will see a profile picture of people that tweets around you, including their approximate distance from where you are. There’s a very good chance that you will meet your twitter friends over the area, then you can maybe call them and make an appointment to see each other, or maybe you can avoid meeting someone you don’t fancy using this apps.

With rapidly increasing number of twitter user that mostly share their location, you can bet that this apps will be helpful in some way.

  1. Very nice apps! I will definitely introduce this app to my colleagues. What happen if the user switch off his phone GPS because it tends to drain the battery?

  2. most of modern phones can pick up estimated location using just their mobile network.Off course accuracy will definitely be a problem, because when you’re not using GPS ,your phone estimated your location based on the cell tower that you’re connect into.

  3. I guess the other issue is how to eliminate noise (remember Minority Report?), filter information so that information only relevant to you in a certain context comes on top.

    With the proliferation of information, managing information in a clever way will be key consideration that needs to be implemented?
